Alexandra Burke graces the cover of Fabulous’ super-gorgeous Style Issue this week, wearing the latest romantic pastel shades. But there’s one thing she’s missing: A man. And she won’t stop till she gets one.
“My mission for this year is to get myself a boyfriend. I have no idea where I am going wrong. I’m 23 years old and I’ve done a lot in life, but I’ve never found happiness in terms of love.”
Alex is hoping that her search for romance will perk up what has been her hardest year ever – she parted company with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco, launched a clothing line with JLS that was later dropped, been mocked for selling watches on QVC and come under fire after her brief stand-in stint on X Factor. Who can forget that ok.com comment?
And Alex admits that coming under so much scrutiny at the start of her career sent her into depression – constantly checking the internet to see what people were saying about her. She says: ”I was totally obsessed. I would only take notice of the bad things. I’d browse forums and look at these awful things that were written. But you have to grow a thick skin if you want to survive in this business. Saying that, I’ve had to deal with a lot of stuff this year. It’s been a learning curve – I’ve had to prove myself to a new record company. Some things didn’t turn out how I wanted them, but I guess I don’t have a right to moan.”
And of that slated X Factor appearance she says: ”That’s showbiz, and I don’t regret it for a second. I don’t care what Gary said afterwards – during the show he was telling me I was being brilliant and Louis was egging me on to keep going.” Alex only had four hours notice to do the show and was quite overwhelmed by the seating arrangements, ”I was being put on a seat next to Gary Barlow for God’s sake. He’s hot. I told him I fancied him.”
